Job Description:
Trinity Lutheran Church is looking for a Director of Music Ministry to develop and lead the musical elements of our worship services in consultation with the senior pastor and other team members. The ideal candidate is an experienced musician (ability to play a pipe organ is a plus) who is comfortable with contemporary and traditional musical styles. Preference is for someone experienced directing choirs and praise teams. Strong organizational and people skills are essential to success. The position requires weekend and evening time commitments.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Worship Committee to create the best possible worship environment with the highest standards and biblically sound hymns and songs.
- Manage music copyright/use subscriptions.
- Provide musical accompaniment for services (band led, organ, piano).
- Recruit, motivate and supervise musical teams and ensembles for services including the Saturday praise team, Sunday choir and bell choir.
- Provide music leadership for Sunday School and Children/Youth ministries.
- Arrange for proper sound and video support (technology) for all worship services.
- Manage resources needed to record worship services for online posting.
- Develop with other leaders and boards or committees new ministry opportunities where music is requested/desired/required (i.e. Tutoring program, VBS).
- Provide music leadership for the Preschool, including music and video support for Chapels and programs as are used regularly or upon special occasions.
- Plan and prepare music for special services such as Advent, Lent, Maundy Thursday, etc.
- Coordinate music for other church events on and off site.
- Be the liaison between Trinity and other LCMS churches and local entities and churches for civic, evangelical and charity events where musical assistance is needed.
- Attend and report to all appropriate boards and meetings, including but not limited to the Church Council and Staff meetings.
- The position requires weekend and evening time commitments.
Qualifications:
- Member of Missouri Synod Lutheran Church.
- Ability to actively engage the congregation during worship through music.
- Proven musical skills and competence.
- Ability to organize, coordinate, and motivate musicians and technical team members.
- Strong team player with the staff and congregation.
- Committed to the church's mission, vision and leadership.
- Dependable, responsible, self-motivated and creative.
- Minimum five years’ experience in church-related setting (preferred).
Musical Competencies:
- Knowledge of a wide range of styles including Christian classics (hymns) and contemporary music.
- Professional quality pipe organist and piano player (preferred).
- Producing and directing special events and programs.
- Experience with technical aspects of contemporary services (i.e. sound boards, lighting, video editing, etc.).
